Why you can't just put it on the curb

Most valley waste services will not take a mattress in a regular collection, and leaving one at the kerb is how you end up with a code notice. They are also one of the worst things to take to a landfill yourself: bulky, awkward on a roof rack, and they do not compress, so they take a full load's worth of space for one item.

What we handle

The carry is the whole job. A king mattress round a tight landing or up out of a basement is a two-person lift, and a pillow-top can weigh over 100 lb once it has absorbed a few years of humidity. We take it from wherever it is — no dragging it to the driveway first — and take the frame, the base and the headboard in the same trip if you want them gone too.

Recycling

A mattress is roughly 75% recoverable by weight: the steel springs, the timber frame, the foam and the fibre all have separate uses. We send them for recycling whenever a local facility is taking them, which keeps a bulky, slow-degrading item out of the ground. When no facility will take it, it is disposed of properly rather than fly-tipped.

What changes the price

Almost nothing, for one mattress — a single mattress and base normally falls in the smallest load tier. It goes up if there are several (a whole house of bedrooms is a common call after a rental turnover), if there are stairs with a turn in them, or if the mattress is wet or infested, which needs wrapping before it moves through the house.

Bed bugs

Tell us before we arrive rather than after. It is not a problem and we will still take it, but it gets wrapped in place so nothing travels through the rest of your home or into the next customer's. A mattress that gets carried out unwrapped and turns out to be infested is a much bigger problem than an awkward phone call.
