Why people stop paying and still don't empty it

A storage unit is a decision that has been deferred, often for years, and the cost of deferring it is a monthly fee. The unit is usually across town, the contents need a truck and two people, and the facility has gate hours. So the rent keeps going out and the unit stays full — quite often long past the point where the contents are worth the accumulated fees.

We meet you there

You do not need to be there the whole time, and you do not need to move anything into the aisle first. Give us the facility, the unit number and access, and we clear it out and leave it broom-clean so you can hand the keys back and stop the billing that day. If you cannot be there at all, we can work from a video walk-through and your instructions.

Sorting on the spot

Most units are a mix of things worth keeping and things that were never going to be needed again. Point out what you want and it goes aside; everything else is loaded. Usable furniture and housewares are set aside for donation rather than binned, which is often most of what is in a unit.

What we cannot take out of a unit

The same list as anywhere else, and units collect these more than houses do: old paint, solvents, fuel cans, propane bottles and pool chemicals. They cannot go in the load. Watch for damp

Non-climate-controlled units in this valley get hot in summer and damp in winter, and the things that suffer are cardboard, upholstery, mattresses, particle board and anything paper. Expect more of a long-stored unit to be unsalvageable than you are picturing — it does not change the job, but it changes what is worth carrying home.

Price

By volume, like any load, quoted upfront. A unit that is stacked to the roof holds more than people estimate, so a photo from the door is worth sending before the day.
